The Meadows Center and REI Outdoor School have teamed up to offer new water-focused environmental learning and outdoor education activities at Spring Lake. All activities are education focused and led by interpreters who are committed to protecting and sharing Spring Lake.

Full Moon Kayak Tours

REI Member: $55

Non Member: $65

Join REI for a moonlit kayak tour on one of the Hill Country's most beautiful spring-fed lakes. Experience the spring's glow under the light of a full moon. Share a relaxing paddle with us as the sun sets and the moon rises over the waters of the Edwards Aquifer. This is the perfect time to see nocturnal wildlife come alive as they seek out the springs. All gear and instruction provided by REI Outdoor School.

Learn to Kayak Class

REI Member: $55

Non Member: $65

This class will introduce students to the basics of paddling a kayak in a mild setting and at a relaxed pace. Students will learn about kayaks, paddles, gear and clothing before learning to launch and being introduced to the basic paddle strokes. This class is a great way for those considering kayaking to try it out.

This class will introduce students to the basics of stand up paddleboarding in a mild setting and at a relaxed pace. Students will learn about SUPs, gear and clothing before learning to launch and being introduced to the basics. This class is a great way for those considering SUPing to try it out.

Sunset Kayak Tours

Experience an exclusive, evening view of San Marcos' Spring Lake from one of REI's sit on top kayaks. Floating on top of the crystal clear waters of the Edwards Aquifer, catch the colors of sunset as they roll over the surface of the Lake. Learning about this sensitive resource and the surrounding flora and fauna will offer you an opportunity to understand the history of Central Texas and the important role of this very water. All gear and instruction provided by REI Outdoor School. No experience is necessary, but please bring your own headlamp.

San Marcos River Kayak

REI Member: $79

Join the REI Outdoor School for a kayak expedition down this classic 6-mile stretch of the San Marcos River, along the Luling Zedler Mill Paddling Trail. Our experienced instructors will lead you down one of the most beautiful and serene stretches of water that Central Texas has to offer. We will put in at Hwy 90 and take out at Hwy 80, near the Luling Zedler Mill. This river segment is a designated Texas Parks and Wildlife Paddling Trail, and on it you will see many migratory birds and wildlife as the water moves you through sweeping bends and stretches covered by towering Cypress trees. All paddling gear is provided including paddles, kayaks, and Personal Flotation Devices, as well as transportation from REI's Downtown location. Lunch is not provided. This class is recommended for ages 18 and up. Ages 14 and up must be accompanied by an adult.
