Part-Time Regular Wage Positions Available:

    Job Description: You will lead tour groups of 10-30 participants around the park interpreting various environmental and historical subjects concerning the area. You will be working with various age groups Pre-K through Senior Citizens. You will be required to learn how to drive the glass-bottom boats. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) leading tour groups, driving boats, customer service, setup/cleanup of tour supplies, and taking out the trash.

    Required Qualifications:

    All Applicants Must Meet the Following Qualifications.

    • Weekday mornings between 9am-1pm (or similar), plus preferred: Saturday and Sunday availability.
    • Must have a driver's license with good driving record to drive the glass-bottom boats.
    • Must be available to work at least half of spring break, 2 shifts during finals week, and during the majority of the Summer. Some holiday work required.
    • Must have great customer service skills and a positive attitude.
    • Must be comfortable working with children.
    • Must be comfortable working around water. 
    • Applicants must have a reliable method of getting to work. Applicants driving must have or be willing to purchase a Texas State University parking permit. 

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Current Texas State Student
    • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Education, Working with Children, Public Speaking, Biology, Geography, Texas History, Archaeology, Recreation, Lifeguarding, or related field.

    Job Description: Responsible for the daily care and maintenance of a commercial aquarium designed to communicate the unique aquatic habitats of the Edwards Artesian Aquifer and its spring systems. 

    Example of Duties

    • Maintain Spring Lake’s aquarium displays by daily inspection, routine cleanings, feeding, and water quality monitoring.
    • Inspect and maintain filtration, chillers, and UV sterilizers on aquariums.
    • Removal and treatment of any sick or injured fish.
    • Collection and acquisition of new specimens.
    • Knowledge of plumbing aquariums with external filtration.
    • Perform other duties assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Knowledge of: Safe SCUBA diving and skin diving practices; rules and regulations regarding the possession of endangered species; aquarium systems, design and function; university policies and procedures; ecology of the Edward’s Aquifer and Guadalupe Blanco river basin; pump, thermal controls, filtration systems and aeration systems.

    Skill in: Diagnosing necessary equipment repairs, identifying and treating sick and injured fish, interacting courteously with a variety of people, basic plumbing, fish handling and transporting

    Ability to: Read manuals, work schedules, operated aquarium filtration, receive certification to dive in Spring Lake, SCUBA dive in tight spaces, perform preventative maintenance.

    The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment’s communication team is looking for a versatile, motivated individual with strong all-around design skills, a great creative eye, knowledge of branding and an enthusiasm to learn. As a graphic designer, your role will be vital in helping us effectively share our mission.

    Job Duties: 

    Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Participate with the Communications team to plan and implement marketing campaigns.
    • Craft a variety of branded materials including brochures, signage, education and fundraising assets and more.
    • Web design, including graphic design, site navigation and content layouts; perform maintenance and updates to existing websites when requested by staff.
    • Coordination with internal and external clients to deliver on deadline .
    •  Working with printers – seeing projects through to printed page
    • Other related duties.

    Required Knowledge and Skills:

    • Proficient or expert skill in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop (including slicing photos in Photoshop). 
    • Be an energetic self-starter who can take direction.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Works well in a fast-paced environment

    Student workers will primarily be assisting with habitat restoration efforts in the San Marcos river in compliance with the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan. There may also be opportunities to assist with our UAV flight operations and post-processing of imagery.

    Duties include:

    • removal of submersed non-native aquatic vegetation
    • expanding/planting native aquatic vegetation in the river 
    • collection and propagation of native plants in our aquatic nursery
    • assisting with annual vegetation surveys

    Requirements:

    • Must be able to swim
    • Must be comfortable working in water for long periods of time in variable weather
    • Able to stay on task while working in a group or independently 
    • Capable of repeatedly lifting 50 lbs

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • SCUBA certified 
    • Knowledge of local aquatic flora 
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and ArcMap
    • Wildlife, Aquatic, Biology and Natural Resource Majors preferred

    Scheduled Hours:

    Fall/Spring Semester

    • AM shift operates from 8AM-12PM
    • PM shift operates from 12PM-4PM

    Summer Semester

    • AM shift operates from 7AM-1PM
    • No PM shift

    Weekly student-schedules are limited to a maximum of 25hrs/week during the long semester and when taking summer classes.

    Example of Duties:

    • Maintain and update a master inventory of computers and technology resources.
    • Respond promptly to provide basic IT support for networked Windows 10 computers including printer and display connections and software updates.
    • Use the following applications to support organizational goals: Zoom, Open Broadcaster Software, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe CC Suite.
    • Provide limited IT support for a small range of Linux applications in embedded exhibit media systems.
    • Investigate and evaluate software and hardware.
    • Communicate well with coworkers and supervisors. Request help when needed. Contact ITAC for issues requiring outside support.

As the social media intern, you will play an important role in sharing our story and the story of water in Texas.
