The Meadows Center and REI Outdoor School have teamed up to offer new water-focused environmental learning and outdoor education activities at Spring Lake. All activities are education focused and led by interpreters who are committed to protecting and sharing Spring Lake.

    On this evening kayak tour you will experience a quiet sunset followed by a nighttime light show at the Hill Country's most beautiful spring-fed lake. You'll experience the Edward's Aquifer like never before as we kayak over the San Marcos Springs while spotlighting nocturnal wildlife and highlighting this amazing underwater landscape! Experience the spring's glow under the light of your own high-powered underwater spotlight and learn the history and the importance of these ancient Springs. All gear and instruction provided by REI.

    This class will introduce students to the basics of paddling a kayak in a mild setting and at a relaxed pace. Students will learn about kayaks, paddles, gear and clothing before learning to launch and being introduced to the basic paddle strokes. This class is a great way for those considering kayaking to try it out.

    This class will introduce students to the basics of stand up paddleboarding in a mild setting and at a relaxed pace. Students will learn about SUPs, gear and clothing before learning to launch and being introduced to the basics. This class is a great way for those considering SUPing to try it out.

    Experience an exclusive, evening view of San Marcos' Spring Lake from one of REI's sit on top kayaks. Floating on top of the crystal clear waters of the Edwards Aquifer, catch the colors of sunset as they roll over the surface of the Lake. Learning about this sensitive resource and the surrounding flora and fauna will offer you an opportunity to understand the history of Central Texas and the important role of this very water. All gear and instruction provided by REI Outdoor School. No experience is necessary, but please bring your own headlamp.
